Next Saturday at LeQuiVive Gallery in downtown Oakland, J. Lately will unleash his latest labor of love, Daydreams and Warm Nights. The release will feature a live performance from Lately himself, in addition to a host of other talented local emcees who share J. Lately’s daydreams of success and dedication to craft. His music is motivational, but not in an anthemic “Every day I’m hustlin’” sort of way. Lately makes music to marinate to. It’s late night introspective fare for dreamers juggling their grinds with their aspirations.
J. Lately and I share the balancing act of teaching and creating in Oakland. As an educator and an artist he cares deeply about the community and his music reflects that. If you’re an appreciator of honest art and/or are a renaissance (wo)man juggling hustles, you’ll dig J. Lately’s music and perspective. You’ll also like the rest of the emcees he’s sharing the stage with. Joining Lately on Saturday night will be Word.Up and the Dope City Saints, Azuré, and CaliMade. CaliMade, a young collective which includes Carbyne, Dayvid Michael, SKYTYE, Tone Lz, Kosby, Malcolm King and of course Steve Shankle, Clyde Shankle, and Billy Bob Shankle, will be joining the Wake Up, Hot Head Ent, and Kurse Krew the night before as well to rock the same venue for the event Lavish Nights Vol. 3.
“I wanted to throw a dope hip-hop party in Oakland, with representatives from all over the Town and from all different age groups,” shared Lately. “I’m making it free and all ages because I want it to be a true celebration of the dope music that we have coming out of our area and the close-knit music community that we have here.” If it isn’t apparent, that pretty much sums up our mission here at 38th Notes too. Come out to LeQuiVive Gallery on Saturday, September 29th and celebrate dope art in Oakland.
The first 3 people to tweet this link AND come to the show will receive a free album and t-shirt at the event. We’ll see you there!
