The Cataracs are known to many as pop artists with electronic music sensibilities, but for those of us who have been following them since their Berkeley High days, we know they come from hip-hop stock. In this interview they discuss their hyphy roots, maturing their sound, and their ability to fuse EDM with a hip-hop foundation. That fusion of genres will no doubt be showcased on their new 8-track EP, Gordo Taqueria, which will be dropping at midnight!
The EP of course is named after the famous Bay Area taqueria. I myself am an East Oakland taco truck boy, but Gordo’s is a pillar of home for most of my Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Kensington and SF homies. I’m glad to see that The Cataracs are keeping it real Bay even though they’re beasting on LA at the moment. Also, if you needed further confirmation that they’re not losing their heads down in La La Land, check out this down to earth piece on the duo in the LA Weekly.
