On July 6th as First Friday’s Art Murmur winds down, the New Parish will be turning up. That’s because Richmond representative IamSu will be performing at his first Oakland headline show. 38thnotes is proud to co-present the proceedings with Ineffable Music, Cre8tiveClass, and Above Ground, and are dedicated to making it a fun event whether you’re 18 or 37. Su has made waves in the Bay Area and around the country and recently had two songs on the charts. Not bad for an unsigned kid from the Rich.
Speaking of which, rumor has it that he’s pretty close to inking a deal with a major label, and no one is surprised given his talent. Our only hope is that the deal is worth the shackles that can come with a recording contract in the modern music industry. We all know a few Bay rappers who were signed and shelved. Clyde Carson anyone? Mistah FAB? Only time will tell what fate will befall Kreayshawn. It’s not a knock on the individuals involved, just an unfortunate reality for many new artists signed to major labels who don’t know a hulkshare from hole in the ground.
As advocates of Bay Area music, we only hope that Su is able to find a situation conducive to his creative growth and long term success. And to toast to that, we will be turning up with the HBK crew on July 6th! I promise it will be maney. Cop your tix HERE and don’t miss out!
