Happy Mothers Day from Tupac Shakur & Jennah Bell

“And since we all came from a woman,
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman,
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it’s time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women.”

These famous lyrics were uttered by  2pac on “Keep Ya Head Up.” And then of course there is “Dear Mama,” his goosebump- inducing tribute to the flawed heroin that was his mother, Afeni Shakur. Mothers may not be perfect, but if they raised you, you owe something priceless to them. And if they didn’t, as is often the case in Oakland, let this day be a celebration of whoever it was who has guided you through this trying world.

Remember that parenting is both an imperfect science and an evolving art; There is no right way, only the path that got you here. We have learned a bit as children along the way however, so let this day also be a celebration of the amazing parent you are becoming. We certainly need more dedicated mothers and fathers in this city. Man and woman up.
