Youth Speaks Bay Area Poetry Slam Finals on Friday!

Any time I see young people performing poetry or hear anything about local literary arts organization Youth Speaks, I get a bit nostalgic. For most of my high school years I was in writing workshops or rocking stages with a power I didn’t know I had: to connect with people with my words. In fact, here I am now, connecting to all of you with my words. Interestingly I cover the art of others more than producing my own, but the use of the written word is still in full effect.

Tonight, another generation of young poets will take the stage for a chance to represent the Bay Area at the Brave New Voices national slam in July. Every year, the Bay has one of the best team’s in the world, so don’t miss the cream of the crop duke it out for supremacy, while exhibiting a community-centered love and humility that society is missing. Sometimes we have to look to the youth for guidance.
