“Environmental and social degradation is the battle that I am trying to fight,” explains Dominique Drakeford, an Oakland native  pursuing her masters in Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Fashion.  “However, the war is really in changing attitudes.  With this understanding, I’ve chosen to use fashion, one of the most visible and seductive mediums, as a vehicle for change.”

Drakeford’s understanding of the influence of fashion, combined with her commitment to community and education, led her to organize Community Thrift.  Today you can head over to East Oakland Youth Development Center for great fashion finds and to support a great cause. There will be a mix of used clothes and accessories priced at $1, $5, and $10. Proceeds from the event go to EOYDC’s Pathway to College Program and help fund research about sustainable fashion.

Event: Community Thrift
