Video: The Jealous Guys: “Bus Stop Jazz”

February 7th, 2011  |  Published in Music, Uncategorized

Our friends over at iLL-Literacy turned us on to The Jealous Guys a couple weeks ago. Their song “Love You So” can be found on our recently released Bay Abridged January mixtape, and now we’re really feeling their video for “Bus Stop Jazz.” The keys and horns transmit a subdued melancholy that conjures up early 90s New York hip-hop. What’s interesting about that sepia memory is that the Jealous Guys are actually a San Francisco duo, the year is 2011, and the groove was supplied by Montreal electronica producer Lunice.

The director, Chasen Paper, reinforces the “golden era” hip-hop feel by shooting the video at night on SF street corners and Muni buses, and featuring old school graffiti tags of the song’s lyrics on US Postal Service labels. If you were a bit late on the uptake with The Jealous Guys, you’re not alone, but rest assured that we’re paying attention now. Get ready for The Love Mixtape dropping on Valentine’s Day.
Shout out to 24K Milk Crate and Southern Hospitality for the hard work!
