New Music: Goapele & Mos Def: “Different (Unreleased)”

April 29th, 2010  |  Published in Music

I am quite sure that all you hip-hop heads will appreciate this little gem. During the Change It All sessions, the first incarnation of Goapele’s hit duet “Different” was recorded with the one and only Mos Def.
I first heard this version a few months back in Goapele’s studio, and though I was juiced, I think they made the right choice going with Clyde Carson instead. As hard as it is to cut Mos from a song, the heartfelt and frustrated dialogue between Goap and Clyde make the track what it is.
I might catch flack from the true-school rap nerds for putting Clyde above Mos, but fuck it, Clyde is raw on the original. Nonetheless, for all you collectors of rap rarities and buried treasure, walah!
