New Music & Interview: Nio Tha Gift: “I Will Prevail”

April 21st, 2010  |  Published in Music

Nio is a beast, my dude. He’s been gassing shit left and right, and this joint is without a doubt a problem! So whether you mess with mp3s, disc changers, or cassettes, pop “I Will Prevail” in your auto and smash!
The baby-faced savage has been on a bit of a killing spree of late, but one more feather in his cap won’t hurt. With Aristotle on the boards, the South Richmond representer sounds at home in the fire. And if you aren’t up on the sanger-turnt-rapper, check out a couple interviews and a recent music video below.
At 22 years of age, Nio brings a spirit and tenacity that I believe can cross over, and to a degree he already has. To let him tell it, he is “the first US hip-hop artist to ever perform and distribute an independent album in China.” This far east focus helped earn him 100,000 pre-orders of his debut album, H.I.P. H.O.P. before he even had much of a local buzz. To say that identifying a southern province of China as your jumping off point is a bit strange, is an understatement. But as we all know, the Bay is ground zero for the indepedent hustler, so I guess we shouldn’t really be surprised.
